2 Year Well Visit = Success!

"His I don't want to go to the doctor" face
Today was a huge success. We had Baker's 2 year well visit with Dr. Smith at Sandhills Pediatrics. He hasn't been too fond of Dr. Smith in the past (he's only seen her three times before) and each time he screamed the minute she walked in the room and buried his head in my legs screaming "mommy! mommy! mommy!" I was hoping he would act the same way he did on 11/29 when we had a follow up appointment with Dr. Kirchner (the ENT). Dr. Kirchner said Baker's tubes are still entact and all looks well so we're following up with him in 5 months to see the status then. Unlike other children, he might have to have his tubes removed if they don't come out on their own. Go figure! However, we arrived at the Dr. office today a few minutes early. I had to fill out a vaccine paper and then let Baker "color" on the back with their pen that had a tongue depresser taped to it. He was so entertained with the pen for some reason and it was probably because it was so strange looking. We were taken back in the matter of minutes which is so nice. I love Sandhills! You always go back right away and the appointments are in and out. Baker was very cooperative in letting them weigh him standing up like a big boy, he then lined up his feet on the picture by the wall so they could measure his height. He even thought it was magic when she pricked his toe to get a blood sample as it would quickly go up the little stick when she put it up to his toe and squeezed. He kept saying ooooo, magic mama! I filled out a little questionnaire similar to the military's Ages & Stages. Baker passed it with flying colors and does everything he should and then some! I really think his speech therapist and early interventionist seeing him every week has helped get him back on track and even ahead of where he should be! The doctor was pleased with his progress. I'll be giving him a Flintstones vitamin since he is getting pickier and picker on the foods he will eat (he won't touch veggies). She said there was no need to give him Pediasure. Darn...I was thinking that'd definitely give him what he needed. I hate it but I really am not sure he'll chew up a Flintstones vitamin! He has some exzema on his face which we can control with special cream. It flared up today and she said it could be a flare up of the exzema or it could also be an allergic reaction. We're going to keep an eye on it! He weighed 28.5 lbs and measured 35 inches tall. Believe it or not he was only in the 55%ile for his weight, 72%ile for his height and 44%ile for his BMI. She said he's doing just perfect. He'll be long and lean just like his daddy! We only had 1 shot on the agenda and that was a Hepatitis A shot. He took it like a champ and didn't even cry! YAY for no tears!! He got a fat bottom lip but by time he realized what was going on then the nurse was already done and he just held up his leg and said "Ow mama!" The nurse put a band aide on his "boo boo" and we were on our way! He picked out a doggy sticker and we headed home with Curious George in hand of course! His next well visit isn't until he is 3 years old...SERIOUSLY? I can't even imagine. I'm sure the way time flies that day will be here sooner than we all can imagine but for now we're going to enjoy the year of the big 2 regardless of them being accompanied by tantrums, tears, laughs, and "mines!" :)

Here's what I saw when I got to Baker's daycare to pick him up for his appointment. They just finished up snack time!
