Big Boy! |
Sunday night marks another milestone for Baker -- He officially entered the world of a big boy bed. We were thrilled when Gordie's parents told us that they had 2 twin maple beds and we are so thankful that they were willing to give them to us for the boys! As you know, Baker's 4 in 1 crib transitioned to a daybed which he has been using for quite sometime now but was quickly outgrowing it so this was all perfect timing! We plan to set the other twin bed up in the nursery so in case we have a long night, or two, or three then we'll have a place to sleep to allow the other person some good rest. We have my old daybed in the nursery now and we decided to move it since it is a little girlie and probably not suitable for a boy's nursery. However, it will be really cool to have the boys have the same twin beds growing up!!
Gordie picked the beds up from Camden and we quickly got it put together (it's quite an awesome bed!) There's no screws or assembly required as the side panels just notch into the head and footboard. They are so high quality and Baker said "ooo" and "ahhh" as Gordie was getting it put up.
Sunday was an eventful day for all of us as we literally didn't stop all day which meant no nap for B. He does remarkably well when he doesn't nap. He doesn't get grumpy or anything as he is just very go with the flow. We went to church and lunch with my parents and then Baker and I went to Lowes with my parents while Gordie took the car to Camden to get the furniture.
While my parents got a new water heater, Baker and I went to look at rugs. We had been looking for a rug for his room since we moved in last year and never found the "right one". We found this little gem on an endcap and it is cushioned with memory foam! It is the best.rug.ever. Not only was the color perfect but the foam makes it non-slip and its comfortable! After shopping we headed back to my parents house to get a reprieve from the heat for a bit before heading back to my house. My parents gave us their bed rail that they got for Baker at their house so we could use it on his new bed. However, transporting a 5x7 rug and a huge bed panel rail in a Chevy Malibu was quite difficult. It was a sight to see for sure but Baker was definitely the biggest trooper having both items within hands reach. I'm just glad we didn't get in an accident! Before we ended our excursion, we made a pit stop for a McDonalds ice cream cone that was delicious! (Baker and I split one) My mom helped get everything unloaded and then she headed back home. All of this while it was in the upper 90s outside...can we say HOT?!? It wasn't in the 100s like it has been but it sure felt it. By now, we were all exhausted. My back, feet, and lets were hurting so bad. I don't recall having this many "pains" at this point in my pregnancy (23/24 weeks) before but of course I wasn't chasing a toddler back then!
It didn't hit us last night until 8PM that we needed a vinyl mattress cover for the bed. Baker has accidents sometimes and while we still wear pull ups at night he manages to pee out of them somehow. So since his new mattress and boxspring are not vinyl covered we had to make a quick run to Walmart. We were all exhausted and of course Walmart is the last place you feel like going on a Sunday night when I might add it was still tax free weekend. We were thankfully in and out within minutes and headed to Sonic to cap off our weekend with a slushie. Baker didn't last through the drive through before he was lights out. We pulled in the driveway and immediately stuck him in the bed. He slept the entire night from 845PM-730AM! No early morning wake up -- woohoo! Last night was also the first night that we ever used a nightlight in Baker's room. I was paranoid of him trying to find a way to get out of his new bed in the dark and fall out somehow trying to climb over the rails. I was also more nervous since he didn't fall asleep in his new bed that he might wake up frantically trying to figure out where he was. However, my nerves were calmed by the nightlight and he did great. I asked him this morning when he woke up if he liked his new bed and he said "NO!" I said, "I think you did, you seemed to be sleeping really hard and its so comfy" and he responded with "NO!" Sometimes opposition is his favorite thing to do. In his daybed, our night time routine was starting to be tested. Before he would so easily bed down to sleep. Now that he is older, we have a routine saying his prayers, singing a few songs/lullabyes, kisses and hugs and then go to sleep. But now he was starting to cap it off with excessive crying and yelling for us because he was scared....scared of what? Sometimes he'd mumble incoherent words and sometimes he'd say monsters. We reassure him there are no monsters in his room and tell him next time he was scared to say his prayers and that God would make everything OK and keep him safe. Let's just hope with a new bed that we don't uncover a new territory of bed time delays. I think this might mean we put away the "There's an Alligator Under my Bed" book he likes to look at. Wish us luck with the next few nights!
