We had our 33.5 week appointment on Monday, Oct 19th. I had gained 5 lbs which brings my total weight gain to 30 lbs! The baby is as healthy as ever and his heartbeat sounds perfect. He is in the head down position still so we might have a little cone head baby when he comes out since he has been down that way for quite sometime but he is preparing to enter the world soon so we are grateful that he isn't breech or anything. The doctor estimated his weight to be 5 lbs! We are sure on our way to having one healthy baby. I just hope he stays in there long enough to fully develop and be as healthy as possible.
I had a little scare after this appointment as I had been having these stabbing pains really low in my abdomen quite often. They were hurting enough for me to vocalize an "ow" every now and then. I waited it out as I thought it might be some braxton hicks contractions but then they happened more and more and I knew it had to be something more. We looked online to see what the possibilities of what it might be were and one was a bladder infection. I called my doctor because it looked like you don't want to let a bladder infection go during pregnancy as it can lead to a kidney infection which is really bad news when you are pregnant. My doctor said to monitor the pains and call back the next day if they still persisted. I monitored them the remainder of the day and night. The next day I was still in a lot of pain so I contacted the doctor to see if I could get tested for a bladder infection. They took me in right away and we found out within 10 minutes that I did not have a bladder infection but it still wasn't telling me why I was having these pains. They said it could be dehydration or possible strains to any muscle or ligaments down there and for me to take it easy. I drank nothing but water and tons of it for days and it seemed to help the pain subside. We attended the childbirth preparation class on Saturday, Oct 24th from 8-3PM. During the class they discussed many things and one was the ligaments that can be strained during pregnancy. Gordie and I both agreed that I must have had a combination of dehydration and strained a uterine ligament. The nurse that taught the class said only resting can repair a strained ligament so that is what I did for many days and the pains have gone away. Thank goodness! They were the worst pains I have ever had and the only thing that has hurt or been bad this entire pregnancy. We were just so blessed that it wasn't anything serious.
We passed our childbirth class and received a certificate at the end! It was quite a helpful class as we learned a ton and watched some eye opening videos. We watched a non medicated birth, an epidural birth, and a c-section birth. Needless to say, they all grossed Gordie (and me a little) out especially the non medicated one. They just looked like they were in SO much pain that it pained me to watch it. I will be taking the medicated, epidural route and will just put my prayers and faith in the doctor's and nurses hands that everything goes smoothly!
Time is nearing as we only have 5-6 weeks until he should be here and we couldn't be happier! Gordie keeps saying that he wants him here now so he will be one proud daddy when his boy arrives.
