Close Call

*Still smiling after the accident, what a trooper!
It's never a good feeling when you hear your phone ring in the late afternoon only to see the phone display "Baker's Daycare". My stomach sunk as I knew something was wrong since they don't call you unless something has happened or if he is sick. It was an accident report that she was calling about. At 3:50PM Baker was outside with the other kids yet he was sitting on the concrete stoop outside the door to his room and supposedly was pushed and he lunged forward and hit his face on the ground which is covered in wood chips and the soft skin right under his eye actually hit a wooden edge resulting in a cut. Of course I panicked. Gordie had off today so I called him immediately and had him go pick him up and check him out. It definitely was a close call. The cut is not even an inch from his eye so any further up and we would have had a serious problem. Thank you God for looking after my sweet little one!!

When I got home, I decided we should take him to the ER to get him checked out to ensure his eye wasn't damaged and to make sure the knot that formed on his forehead was nothing to be too concerned about. Palmetto Richland Children's Hospital got us in and out in right about an hour. That is record timing for a hospital ER visit in my opinion. They tested him and checked him out and everything seemed to check out as far as him being okay aside from his face looking scraped, red, and swollen. They cleaned the cut and scrapes and that is when half of his face turned red from it being cleaned. We stopped at Lizard's Thicket on the way home so I'm sure everyone working and eating there was wondering what happened to our little boy! Despite the situation, he was hamming it up for the doctor smiling, lifting up his leg for him and even giving him a high five. Our big boy definitely handles some pain like his Daddy.

I know this is probably one of the many "uh oh what do they want/stomach sinking" experiences we will have with Baker but I am SO thankful that even though it seemed terrible in the moment it could have been worse and we are blessed that he managed to only get away with some bruises, scrapes, a knot, and a cut to show for it.

His daycare will hear it from this mama tomorrow...
