38 weeks & the stomach virus

38
This week we celebrated reaching the 38 week milestone in this pregnancy with an unwelcome visit from the stomach bug for Baker.  The nasty virus took hold of his little body on Tuesday and he didn't start feeling better until this morning.  Last night was the first night he actually kept food down.  He was absolutely pitiful and looked ghostly pale for what seemed like forever.  We all washed our hands and kept being very thorough in cleaning so we could try and stay healthy.  I mean who really thinks about a stomach virus when you are less than 10 days away from #2 arriving?  That's right, we have no time to be sick!  At least we got this one behind us before I delivered but I know this is just one of the many, many times we will deal with stomach viruses!

I took Baker to work with me Tuesday morning as his virus started out mild with just nasty diarreah. Later that morning I took him over to my parents as Poppy agreed to take care of him.

He acted perfectly normal when I picked him up but it quickly turned day and night in his symptoms. He quickly fell asleep the minute we left their house and we pulled in our driveway only to hear Baker sounding like he was choking but really it was projectile vomit ALL over him, his carseat, and my car.  Oh, it was a nightmare.

Big boy rested at home and with Poppy on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  Thank you Daddy!!  Also a big thank you to Nana on Tuesday morning for running to the store and bringing us some sickie essentials.

Thursday was the first time we gave  him any real food.  We tested him with some dry toast on Wednesday night and he handled that okay so we kept the dry toast going on Thursday along with jello and gatorade.  Since he kept it all down we deicded to give him some Lizards Thicket mashed potatoes!  Or as he called them mashed tatoe!  I was ready to feed him but he snatched the fork and plate from me and said "ooooo can I do it!?" I guess he was hungry!

Bath Friday morning --his color is back and he says he's feeling better!

Follow up at the ENT to check on the his tube that is still in his right ear.  Unfortunately its still there and we have to follow up again in 6 months.  We hope it will fall out on its own.  I'd prefer not to have to surgery remove it.  Pro to leaving it in longer is that it will get him through the winter when toddlers most have ear issues due to the cold weather.  Con which they say the pros outweigh it is that his eardrum could not heal 100% since his tube has been in so long (they were put in 8/2010).  It's just funny because at the time they put them in we were SO concerned that the tubes wouldn't stay in long since they had to use the smallest & shortest tubes possible due to his ear canal being so narrow.  Who would have thought we'd be having the opposite issue of one not wanting to come out on its own.
They poked around in his right ear which upset Baker a little so I told him he would get a treat if he felt up to one after we left.  There was a McDonalds nearby and he requested a pancake.  I'm just glad his appetite is back--you can tell he is happy too based on his face in this picture--he ate 2 whole pancakes.
