ENT, Birthday Party, Contractions & 39 weeks

Friday morning I took Baker to a follow up ENT appt.  Thankfully he was feeling more like himself!  We survived the nasty stomach bug - whew!  The reason for this follow up was to check his tube.  His left tube is out but his right one was still in months ago when he had his second assessment.  They wanted to follow up to see if it had worked its way out yet or if it was still securely in place.  Unfortunately it is still lodged in his eardrum which according to the doctor has pros and cons.  Pro is that it seems to be doing its job and functioning properly and it will help us get through the winter season with hopefully little trouble.  Con is that it really was a short tube that the Dr. that put them in back in Utah said he'd be surprised if it lasted 6 months.  Here we are over 2 years later and its still in place.  So the con is leaving it in longer might disrupt the ear drum from healing if it is removed.  We contemplated his points and decided we would leave it in thru the winter and reassess in the Spring.  I really hate to sedate him to remove a tube and that's exactly the dr. concern.  SO with that being said we are hoping by giving him one more stretch of 6 months that it will fall out on its own.  He really doesn't like to let one set of tubes stay in longer than 3 years.  Keep your fingers crossed!  Since he did so well I took him to McDonalds for breakfast per his request because he kept saying he wanted a pancake.  His appetite was back because he ate 2 whole pancakes without pausing in between.  I'm so glad he's feeling better!

I'm ready to see the doc!

Saturday afternoon we had a birthday party to go to for our friends daughter, Madi.  She is the sweetest little girl and Baker adores her.  She actually turns 4 on the 27th so she is a turkey baby just like Baker! The theme was Doc McStuffins which we weren't very familiar with since we don't have cable anymore but Brittan did a great job with decorations and everything.  It was a great time!! Here's some pictures from the party...
Meet Doc McBaker!

Brittan's step sister is an awesome painter that did face painting at the party.  He requested "cocky" and "boots" which is a character from Dora!  Isn't that one awesome gamecock?

Here's the birthday girl blowing out her candles!

Look at those smiles!

Intently looking at one of her new toys, a leapfrog laptop!  She is also wearing the present Baker got her, STOMPEEZ!

Here's Boots from Dora!

He was SO still while she painted & he was so disappointed when the paint started coming off in the tub during his bath that night.  He kept telling me about how daddy washed off his cocky and boots.
Saturday evening I started having some fairly strong contractions about 1030PM.  They were pretty well spaced but then started getting to be more regular coming every 10 minutes and then slowly working down to every 9, 8, and eventually 7 minutes.  My Dr. told me since it is my second baby to call her when they got to be every 7 minutes and she would inform the hospital.  They didn't get to be routine to every 7 minutes until about 1AM.  My mom was on standby and came over so we could let Baker sleep while we packed up the car and headed to the hospital.  We went in through the ER and they took us up to the maternal assessment unit in Labor & Delivery.  They got me in a bed and hooked me up to the monitors and asked us a whole bunch of questions.  They checked my dilation and were monitoring my contractions.  By this time it was 230AM and my contractions were becoming more irregular as time progressed.  At 315AM a new nurse came in and said she would check my progress at 330AM and if I didn't have any progression that she would consult with my Dr. to see what she wanted to do.  330AM came and went and I was still sitting at the same between 1-2 cm so these contractions just weren't doing anything towards progressing with labor.  My Dr. decided to give me the option to do a small shot of morphine and phenergan to help me relax, go home, and get some rest.  If the contractions stopped then they knew it was early labor and if they progressed then they knew it was the real thing and if they were still going strong by 8AM then I would need to come back in.  Gordie and I contemplated the shot weighing the pros and cons.  I was not happy to think of my baby getting morphine or phenergan but at the same time it is a recommendation that came from my Dr. whom I trust to know what is best for our situation.  She's been through a lot with us and these drugs are only category B during pregnancy. We went with the shot and were discharged at 4AM.  I have to say we were a little disappointed but knew we were making the right decision in letting him determine when he was ready.  We headed home both exhausted and me feeling quite woozy.  On the way to the hospital we heard the Mumford & Sons "I will wait" song on the radio.  Several hours later on our way home guess what song was on the radio again?  You guessed it, "I will wait".  Obviously it was a sign from our sweet baby boy that we are going to have to be patient and he was going to wait for the right time when he would make his debut.  So for now here's my 39 week picture and as long as our baby boy is healthy then we will wait ever so anxiously and patiently!

39 weeks!
