Roadtrip!

Over the 4th weekend we took a roadtrip down to AZ to visit with family, Gordie's Aunt Pam, Uncle Matt, & Cousin Emma. They have a beautiful home and we were so happy to be able to make the trip down to visit with them for a few days. They made us some wonderful home cooked meals we thoroughly enjoyed and then treated us to dinner at Cracker Barrel before we left on Sunday. Here are a few pictures from our excursion...

Cedar Breaks National Monument in Southern UT

The monument?

I think he looks like one of those old fashion milk maids in this pic, don't you? :)

Me next to an enormous cactus!

Family Picture! (Baker, Emma, Brian, Pam, Matt, Me, Gordie, & Miller)
Hanging out after swimming

Their beautiful backyard. Miller loved running and jumping over the concrete landscaping.

Where we cooled off. It was really hot there in the mid to low 100s during the day and around the upper 90s at night. We were both amazed to hear it was 99 degrees at 11PM one night, CRAZY! But it is the desert and a little too hot for us to live but it was definitely fun to visit.
He loved this hat.

Playing with Emma

This is a picture of Gordie's Aunt Pam when she was younger. Does this remind you of someone we know and love dearly? That's right, Ashley Owens or as Baker knows her, Auntie Tootie!
Here is another picture that Pam had of Gordie's dad (Gordie Jr.) and Pam with their mother and father (Gordie's grandparents). She wasn't sure who the other girls were. If you look closely at Gordie, do you see someone that resembles him? That's right...we think Baker will probably look a little something like this when he gets older... just a guess but probably a good one. Their faces look similar.
Here's the same picture but a farther away shot. I don't think you can see it as clear as the one above.
Taking a nap, something he did a lot of in AZ. Maybe it was the heat? It was in the low to mid 100s during the day and at least 99 around 10PM. A little too hot for our taste but we got used to it and taking dips in their pool made it definitely more tolerable!
Here is Baker boy again as you guessed it, napping!
Take a close look, see that stray tennis shoe. Someone was really risking it in a DOG PARK leaving their shoe unattended but to the left of that shoe is Miller (aka Mr. Bill!). Yep, he made the trek to AZ with us!
The dog park about 2-3 blocks from Pam's house that had a pond/lake for the dogs to get in and cool off. Such a GREAT idea. Miller loved it, of course!
Here's a picture in AZ right before we went through the Painted Desert and a little before the turn off to go to Tuba City.
These are taken right outside of Lake Powell as this is the Glen Canyon Dam. Such a neat place to visit. The road to cross as you can see looks a little "iffy" Yes, that is an 18 wheeler crossing the bridge in the picture above too!
Lake Powell behind the dam
Look at the size of the dam holding the water, absolutely amazing.
river below
This is a model showing the overview of Lake Powell in Southern Utah. The water is a beautiful light blue and as you can see is different than normal lakes we are used to as this lake looks like a wider river with finger outlets. It is actually neat to see in person because you can see the canyon walls are actually rimmed up and towering over you in various spots but this map or diagram doesn't really depict that well enough.
Our tired traveler...
Our handsome driver!
Our trusty or should I say sleepy navigator
I just LOVE his little feet. They are getting bigger!
He was such a good boy in the car, he really was trooper. The entire car ride was 12 hours and we divided it up on the way down to be 6 hrs Thursday and 6 hrs Friday so we stopped in Kanab, UT on the way down. It worked well but stopping to feed, change diapers, go to the bathroom, walk miller, and get gas always seemed to be such a big to do and seemed to take forever despite us feeling like we were zipping around trying to hurry. This was our first long roadtrip with Baker but definitely not our last! It was such a fun trip and until next time!
