and the saga continues...

Baker's cough has been going on for about a month now. I know Utah and allergy season haven't exactly been friends but to us this cough was not going away and only progressively getting worse. This morning I was at my wits end. I called his pediatrician when I got to work and explained what they have done thus far to date and how it is still as bad or worse today. She hated to say it since we've been in so frequent but we needed to schedule an appointment for him to be seen. I told her I really didn't care but that they weren't letting us out of their facility without an x-ray first, just to be sure. Well, we didn't have to demand an x-ray. I love Baker's primary care physician, Dr. Chen. She is always the best Dr. and is very proactive or understanding to your "gut feeling." Recently when we've had to make last minute appointments for him to be seen, she hasn't been working or available but we were lucky that she was in today and had appointments left. She listened to his chest and heard a rattling/congested sound on the right side. She suggested we get an x-ray (FINALLY!) to make sure it wasn't anything there. We got an x-ray right in the same facility. The clinic he goes to is pretty awesome. They put him in this thing called a Pigg O Stat (see below) to help position his body properly for the x-ray.

*this is not Baker, just a random pic to show you the equipment

Baker wasn't all too happy about being in it but the x-ray barely took 2 minutes so he wasn't in the device for very long. It didn't help that the room felt like 40 degrees! I know you have to keep equipment cool but that room was like an igloo! We went back to the exam room and waited for Dr. Chen to give us the results. Turns out he does have pneumonia in his right lung. It looks like we caught it earlier than later which is good but she then sent us to the hospital to get a nasal swab done to test him for Pertussis. We'll get the results from his test back on Wednesday. So I'll be staying home with the poor guy until we find out the overall diagnosis. Pertussis is highly contagious so he won't be allowed to go to daycare for a while if he has it. If he doesn't then the pneumonia will just take some time to go away. She thinks he has the viral form of pneumonia which is obviously better than the bacterial as that is more dangerous and usually requires a hospital stay.

It just seems to be one thing after another! But as we all say, this too shall pass! Everything else is going well for us. We just hope and pray that our baby boy gets healthier. However, I don't foresee that happening unless he gets out of daycare and that won't be happening for a little bit.

  1. Madi had to go in one of those xray machines before she was old enough to hold herself up at all. It was seriously tramatic for both of us. I hope your sweet baby gets better soon!
