Our sweet boy squealing something on Friday evening. Probably babbling or getting ready to "motorboat" with his lips. He has been doing that a lot lately! On command too. If you start, he'll follow and start doing it. It's hilarious.
Saturday we started our day out with a pancake and bacon breakfast made by me! Baker got a caterpillar pancake, banana vanilla yogurt, and some apple juice. He demolished the ENTIRE thing. After we stuffed ourselves, we continued the saga of packing. I realized on Saturday that Gordie and I are manic packers which means we can't ever just get one room done and move on. We have every intention but then find something in that "one" room which makes us take it to another room and then we get stuck doing some sort of packing in that room and then slowly make our way back to where we were to begin with. That is a little bit of how our Saturday went. We tried to tackle the kitchen, basement, bedrooms, and front room all at once...bad idea. We now have come to the conclusion that we have to tackle each room one at a time and if things need to go to other rooms they go in a pile or get set somewhere so we don't get distracted and take our eye off the objective which is getting it done one at a time. Needless to say, as unorganized as we were packing...progress was made so I'd consider it a success.
Our neighbors had a dinner for us on Saturday evening but unfortunately it was during the Carolina game. Luckily they have cable and turned it on for us! Therefore, Gordie didn't miss a beat. (What a game!! Hello SEC East Champs!! Yeah!) The dinner was lovely and we had so many yummy homemade dishes and treats. We really will miss our neighbors. They take such great care of us with us being so far away from our families. We wish we could just take the neighbors and just transplant them back in SC with us!! After dinner, we headed back home to get some stuff and then we headed down to the Merrick's house to finish watching the game. They are our friends from Gordie's work. David is also from SC but we share a different love for teams when it comes to college football. He is a Clemson fan but was happy to have us over to watch the game. He made some room for some Carolina Football love! :) Baker definitely had lots of fun playing with his friend/their son, Christopher, and all his toys! Christopher is 3 months older than Baker. They get along and play great together. We will be sad to leave them! Baker has been in 2 of the same rooms with Christopher in daycare so we were looking forward to them being in the same 1 yr old room together before we found out we were leaving. Overall, we had a great Saturday and spending it with the Merrick's was a wonderful way to end the evening. I didn't get any still images of Christopher and Baker but check out a video I took. Click here.
Christopher had his pack n play turned into a ball pit. Baker was intimidated at first but then grew to LOVE it. I got home and wondered where his ball pit was! As you can see from the video - he was so into the ball pit that he wouldn't even look up at me. Ha! Click here to see a video!

You've got mail! This was a postcard that goes with the play house he is crawling through. There is actually a mailbox that the "letter" goes in and he loved to carry it around all evening and give it to me on occasion.

Happy boy playing.
Sunday was much like Saturday in that it was a packing day. I did a little grocery shopping as I planned the menu out for the remainder of our time here in Utah. Or so I thought...
Today we got word that Gordie needs to stay in the immediate area until Nov 30th which is 1 week later than we had planned. Do we consider this an inconvenience? Eh, maybe but we are trying to look at it as an opportunity to get packing done without running around like chickens with our heads cut off and getting everything done in a little slower pace. My motto is "there is a reason as to why things happen when they do and how they do" so I'm in agreement there is a good reason why we are delayed one week. It is a little hectic traveling around holidays anyway and given we were planning to head out next Wednesday...right before Thanksgiving might have been a bad idea. Now our ETD (estimated time of departure) is looking like 1 December so keep those fingers crossed nothing changes!!! Looks like we'll be celebrating my Dad's birthday here in Utah on the 28th so I'm guessing we'll have a cupcake party to celebrate Baker's 1st birthday and my Dad's birthday before we leave. We are planning a big 1st birthday for Baker when we get home! I just can't wait!!
Today was a manic Monday for sure! Everything that could have been hard was more complicated and things that should have been easy weren't. However, the highlight of my day was my going away lunch at Red Robin! I work with just about the best people I could ever have asked for. They are just a great eclectic bunch that are so thoughtful and kind. We had a good turn out and ate some good burgers and then I was given a going away Utah care package filled with all sorts of awesome things. One of the best items were 2 t-shirts. One for me and one for Gordie. They are from a local restaurant here in Layton named Rooster's. Gordie's shirt says "I tried Polygamy" on the front and then is an ad for the Polygamy Pale Ale beer on the back of it along with the Rooster's Logo! My shirt says "Sister Wife" on the front and it has the same stuff on the back. H-i-l-a-r-i-o-u-s!
Seeing it made me laugh really hard because we have been watching that Sister Wives show in TLC lately and well you know the connection and image of Utah and polygamy so it was a fun memento to have to remember our time here. I also got a Cracker Barrel gift card along with a $100 Visa gift card. Both will be put to great use! We are still planning on hitting up the Cracker Barrel for turkey day since all our dishes and stuff are packed up. Yumm!! I appreciate everything my office has done for me. Like I've said before, the people I work with here are more friends than co-workers. They have helped take care of us while we have been here being our second family away from home. Each one of them will hold a special place in my heart and I will always remember all the good memories! Ohhh I'm not going to get emotional. :) Good thing my last day is on a Friday and hardly anyone will be in the office. Maybe it won't be such a tearful goodbye...
My Dad's first day on the job as Stay @ home Poppy was today. He did great! He and Baker had some good bonding time and he was a super baby just as he is every other day. I knew it would only be a matter of time for him to get good and comfortable with him. He remembered my dad but after seeing him for a few days, he figured out he was a keeper! :) So it just so happened, my Dad hadn't been to a Utah Jazz game and luckily they had some home games while he was here so that is where they (Gordie and my Dad) are right now! I am staying home with the "boo" and luckily he went to bed after his bath and bottle without a hitch!
Today we are 1 week until Baker turns 1 year old. It is almost unbelievable really. I just cannot fathom that it has been a complete year since I was woken up and realized I was in labor at 3:15AM. Time goes so fast! He's kept us so busy and we've shared so many emotions with him in our lives. Smiles, love, tears, laughter, joy, and most of all the overwhelming feeling of being blessed with a healthy baby boy. I now know what my parents always talked about to me as being unconditional love. I just love this little boy so much and nothing will ever be enough or be able to describe just how much I love him! Seeing the wheels in his head turn these days just shows me more and more how smart he is and it just brings such warmth to my heart seeing him respond, mimic, and react to things we do and say. He is so inquisitive these days and I just can't wait to get home for the rest of our family to watch him grow up. We cannot wait to see just how much he grows and changes in the next coming year. We talk often about how he is the best thing that has happened to us and we can't imagine our lives any other way. I'm so glad we were fortunate enough to be able to have our own baby and raise him in a country that allows us to do everything the way we see fit. As we are departing our military lifestyle, we will never forget the sacrifices others made along with the ones little ones we made. We are so grateful for the things the AF brought us including making it possible to have our baby with no debt, have wonderful insurance that paid for several hospital stays and Baker's tubes surgery without any payments/copays. We are so thankful on so many levels for what the AF has done for us.
Baker's birthday countdown - 7 days. Mommy & Daddy love you so much Baker!!
