Sick Mama & 9 month milestones

I am so tired of being sick! I stayed home today to try and rest to feel better. I went back to the clinic on the base to see if I could get a stronger medicine as amoxicillin is doing NOTHING for me but leave it to the clinic to NOT do anything else for me. I was hoping to get a new antibiotic but no such luck. The "Captain" gave me some cough medicine to take at night to help me sleep and some for during the day. I came home and took the daytime one and it has done NOTHING to help me. Actually, my coughing has been worse since I took the medicine believe it or not. I pretty much want to de-own my body until I feel better. Every time I cough it is like someone is ripping out my throat. :(

Baker has a slight cough so hopefully it isn't anything related to mine. *cross your fingers* I kept him home today since Gordie didn't work until 12 and he got home around 2PM. That meant I had to take him to my Dr. Appt at 1:00PM. Today was an unusual day for UT. The high was 54 and it rained! It started storming at 5AM and yes we had a thunderstorm! It rained off and on all day and of course it hit a nice steady rain the minute I had to get Baker in his stroller to head inside the clinic. Isn't that how it always is? He was such a good baby. He didn't fuss at all and just loved to people watch. I think he gets that from me! :) Being with him today made me wish I could stay home with him everyday. I just hate being away from him so much when I'm at work. I envy you stay at home mom's! Maybe I can do that when we have #2 some day. Despite me feeling terrible and wanting to do nothing but sleep today, I had a good day with my sweet baby. I'm trying to not hold him or do too much contact with him since I feel so awful but he's just so wonderful! His laugh and smile are just about the most contagious thing I've ever known. They both melt my heart!

Onto more exciting news...he has 3 more teeth coming in! His top 2 middle teeth and his right incisor are going to make their appearance soon. The top middle ones will be coming first as I can already see the white poking through. He is such a happy baby, I wouldn't ever have known he was getting 3 all at once!

9 month milestones
  • crawling (finally!)
  • 3 more teeth waiting to make their appearance
  • eating 8 oz ba ba's
  • he sits at the "table" at daycare for meals meaning he is getting table food! I am so careful what I give him as I just am petrified that he will choke since he doesn't have that many teeth but he seems to do just fine! His first table food meal at daycare was tomato soup and small bits of grilled cheese (8/25/10)! He didn't have any reactions and is handling table food at daycare just fine. Some other things little snack foods he has eaten are goldfish, vanilla wafers, animal crackers, etc. Our little one is getting big!
  • He loves his baby food. We haven't met a food that he hates (aside from plain meats that he just wasn't a fan of). As long as you mix it with a veggie or two then he's good to go! Other than that he is still loving his foods. Veggies, fruits, oatmeal, rice, pastas, you name it and he'll eat it!
  • He's weighing a little over 19 lbs and is around 28-29 inches long.
  • He has a 9 month well visit to go to this month but he has to be "well" of course to go to that so I'll get that scheduled once his cough goes away.
  • He still loves breastmilk! I gave him 2 packs of it over the weekend to see if it would "cure" his cough. Well, I don't think it cured it but he sure opened his eyes real wide and sucked it down like he remembered that it was the "good stuff!"
  • He loves his sippy cups. Preferably to bang them on things but he is getting better about actually drinking the liquid as long as he has a back support. He doesn't quite get the idea of tipping his head back to get the juice/formula out but I'm sure he will in due time.
  • He loves to entertain himself and get into just about everything. I can put him in his pack n play with some of his toys and he can be in there for a while without fussing. If he gets tired then he just lays himself down and puts his paci in and goes to sleep. That's the life, right? As far as him getting into everything...he is one determined baby. If you move something that he shouldn't get into to another spot in the room, he will go after it wherever you moved it. Today he went after a spoon that was on the floor that fell from Gordie's cereal bowl. He spotted that spoon and went for it. Once he got a hold of it, he wouldn't let go. Gordie then blocked him from it since he was about to take it in the kitchen. Baker didn't take his eyes off that spoon and tried to grab it from him before he walked away with it! We have got to do some serious baby proofing once I start feeling better. He just wants to hold everything!
  • He still sleeps through the night like a champ. We try to get him to bed anywhere between 8-945PM and he will sleep til around 8-9AM if you let him. He does NOT like to be woken up early. He obviously gets that from us but he really moans when you wake him and get him out of the crib before 8AM. Yeah, we lucked out this go round. Watch our next baby be the complete opposite!
  • We never rocked him, soothed him, or made a big deal about bedtime. We stick him in his crib when he's awake, put on the sleeping sheep, make sure there is a blanket and paci in the crib and he's set. We both give him a kiss and say night night and he usually doesn't even make a peep. Sometimes he might give a little cry but then he quickly falls asleep. We started this routine when he was a newborn and kept with it and I think it has really worked well for him. I didn't want him to become dependent on us to make him fall asleep so we'll see how he progresses with his bedtime routine as he gets older.
  • He loves babies, kids, dogs, cats, and people. There isn't a person Baker has met that he doesn't like. I honestly can't even remember the last time someone made him cry because I don't think that has ever happened. I read articles about separation anxiety and am clueless because he just doesn't act like they say most babies do at his age. Maybe it will come later for him but for now he LOVES everyone. Maybe because he went to daycare at 3 months old and got used to us coming and going all the time?
  • He is starting to be more vocal now that he had his tube surgery. I've noticed a lot more talking to us and his toys. Sometimes I think his talking sounds like real words like "good" "okay" "yes" etc. I'm sure it is my imagination but it is just crazy how real it sounds at times. On Friday, 27 August, Gordie had to work late. Baker and I called Gordie while he was working and he must have been busy because we got his voice mail. When Baker heard his voice on his voice mail, he smiled really big. I then told him to say
"hey da da" and eventually after a second or two and a few "baker sounds/words" I said "Okay Baker say hi to da da" and he then said what sounded just like "hey da da!" Gordie loved it once he heard his voice mail and said it sounded exactly like that. I'm really excited to think about the future and me saying things and him repeating them! Of course his favorite word to say is still "DA DA."
  • Huggies. We have moved on from Pampers to Luvs to Huggies. Huggies didn't work for Baker as a newborn as he just peed right out of them so we kept with Pampers Swaddlers. Then they changed the stuff in them and added drymax. That gave him the worst diaper rash ever and there was talk that it was causing chemical burns on lil bums so we switched to Luvs. Luvs fit Baker SO well. We didn't have a problem with them until it came down to his "blowouts". His blowouts seem to always explode everywhere when he was wearing Luvs. We tried a bag of Huggies out of the blue to see if by chance they fit him better now that he's older. I am so glad we made the switch. Huggies works wonders for him and even holds his "blowouts" in the diaper instead of going all over him and his clothes. So he now proudly sports the new Huggies Little Movers wherever he goes! :)
  • He loves his brother, Miller. Every time he is near Miller he just reaches out to pet him and just smiles and laughs at him. You can tell Miller loves the extra attention and is so gentle around him. I'm glad they both get along with each other. I'm sure Miller won't like the day that Baker pulls his tail or ears but I know that day will come sometime.
Maybe I should have made a New Years Resolution for us to all have good health this year. We sure seem to be lacking in that department. Since Fall is just around the corner, that means Winter isn't too far behind. Oh, please let's stay healthy this winter. I am praying we stay RSV free.

Here's to a Carolina Football countdown - 3 days!

We are so excited for the start of football season! Baker watched the basketball season when we were able to see the games on TV. He then watched the Gamecocks win the College World Series and now he is ready to take to start his first football season and get him some Golden Eagles this Thursday!
