Road Trip Day #5

We hit the road around 10AM bound for Atlanta, GA. It was a short day of driving as we only had a little over 6 hours to go. Our drive cut us through northern Mississippi, into Alabama, and then right into Georgia straight for Atlanta. We were on Interstate 22 all through MS and AL but once we got to Birmingham we had to connect with I-20! That was when we knew we were on our final leg of the trip. We had to take a smaller road to get caught up with it which was interesting. We couldn't find anywhere to eat on I-22 and then when we got on 4 or 5 we still couldn't find much that was appetizing and on our side of the road so eventually we ate a later lunch at Arby's - a nice change of pace from the fast food chains we had been frequenting after going through Birmingham. I road for a bit in the Penske truck with Miller and Gordie this day. I forgot how uncomfortable those bench seats are! My back was killing me!

Somewhere in MS - we made it back to the land of pine trees!

Hello Birmingham, AL!

We had to make a stop to feed Baker somewhere after the GA line. He has continued to be the best baby ever! Who knew he would be such a great traveler? :)

I think George was picked

We decided at this point that going beyond ATL would be our best choice. Gordie picked Covington, GA and I found one hotel that allowed pets (of course for a fee!) - Baymont Inn & Suites. We passed through ATL and I'm so glad I don't live there. I can't take the fast pace of all that city traffic! I had my phone navigating us toward the hotel or so I thought. We got off the exit and started to go into "downtown" Covington. I found it hard to believe that our hotel was that far off the exit. Then I realize my navigation was taking us to the "heart" of Covington as it was set to go to Covington and not the hotel - duh! hahah :) whoops! In the middle of our or should I say my screw up. We saw a movie or show was being taped right there in DT Covington. Pretty neat! Apparently they have tons of shows and movies taped there. The lady at our hotel said they usually stay there when they tape. She thought they were taping Vampire Diaries which is a series on the CW. The hotel was the nicest, most spacious yet so it was a great last hotel to cap off our roadtrip.
We finally found a decent place to eat dinner that I had been wanting for miles - Chick-fil-a! Thanks to our mistake journey downtown - we found one!

Us in the hotel room before dinner

Freida was such a good girl! no more nervous meowing and she not once got sick!

Hopefully this means we have a reader on our hands. :)

Holding the laminated paper that highlights the hotel.

Next destination - HOME in Columbia, SC!
